When it comes to creating delectable dishes, the right kitchen appliances can make all the difference. With Vestel's state-of-the-art Built-in Hob and Built-in Oven, you can take your cooking to the next level. In this blog, we'll walk you through the steps to prepare a classic French onion soup in bread bowls.

Ingredients:

  • 4 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine (optional)
  • 6 cups beef broth
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 4 small round bread bowls
  • 2 cups Gruyère cheese, grated
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

Place a large pot or Dutch oven on your Vestel Built-in Hob and melt the butter and olive oil over medium-low heat.

Add the sliced onions and cook slowly, stirring occasionally for about 45 minutes until they are soft and caramelized.

About 10 minutes before they are done, add the minced garlic and sugar.

If you choose to use wine, pour it into the pot and cook for a few minutes until most of the liquid evaporates.

Pour in the beef broth and add the bay leaf. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Allow the soup to simmer on your Vestel Built-in Hob for about 20-30 minutes while you move on to preparing the bread bowls.

While the soup is simmering on the hob, preheat your Vestel Built-in Oven to 350°F (175°C).

Slice off the top of each bread bowl and hollow out the inside, leaving a thick bread shell. Place the bread bowls on a baking sheet. Once the soup is ready on the hob, remove the bay leaf.

Ladle the hot soup into the hollowed-out bread bowls.

Sprinkle a generous amount of Gruyère cheese on top of each soup-filled bread bowl, and then add a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.

Place the baking sheet with the soup-filled bread bowls in your preheated Vestel Built-in Oven.

Bake for about 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
